The BC Association of Aboriginal Friendship Centres , Provincial Aboriginal Youth Council and Province of BC invite Aboriginal youth (13-24) to take part in a dynamic & educational conference this coming spring break in Kamloops – the traditional territory of the Secwepemc people!
Gathering our Voices 2006 will focus on Aboriginal Health and Justice Issues and will feature interactive & informative workshops, career & education fair, cultural teachings/group activities, and due to it's success from last year - Youth Talent Showcase!
Last year, over 900 youth came together in Vancouver to take part in workshops focusing on Aboriginal health, employment and drug and alcohol prevention, self-expression through music, and cultural discussions on the importance of language and traditional games. Motivational speeches by Adam Beach, Evan Adams and performances by Dallas Arcand and George Leach along with the Much Music Dance party were well appreciated by all.
This year we are working with partners to bring forward more hands-on workshops and cultural sharing, highlight local talent and enable delegates to share their talents. Health and justice issues range from nutrition, wholistic healing and harmful substance prevention to justice circles, community policing, and recruitment and training. Most workshops will be informative to youth and young adults and other workshops will enable youth to explore self-expression through new media and song.
We are seeking those who can address the conference theme of Aboriginal Health and Justice in an interactive manner. If you are interested, please go www.bcaafc.com and download the application.
